Susan Sarandon Bio

It was 1968. Democratic Convention, and there was a casting request for a film that had many roles for young actors who interrupted it. Two recent graduates from Catholic University in Washington DC were invited to audition in New York for Joe (1970). Chris Sarandon, an actor who had been trained in acting, was not selected. His wife Susan was offered a prominent role as Susan Compton as the child of Bill Compton (Dennis Patrick). Dad Bill kills Susan’s drug dealer boyfriend. Then, Joe (Peter Boyle) as a bigot, who works in an assembly line and is a collector of guns, befriends Susan. Five years later Sarandon is the director of the film. Janet is a transvestite who falls in love with Dr. Frank n Furter (1975). In the more than 15 years since having started her career, Sarandon at last actively campaigned for a role that was a hit, Annie in Bull Durham (1988), flying herself from Rome from Rome to Los Angeles. "It was a great script ... and was able to dispel a lot of myths and challenge the American definition of success" said Sarandon. "When I arrived in the city, I spent some time with Kevin Costner, kissed some in the studio, and then returned to the plane". Tim Robbins, her Bull Durham (1988) as a supporting actor was her first lover. He had two sons by 1992. This left Sarandon in a difficult position. She was forced to leave her home to take on roles that were truly challenging. It was the result four Academy Award nominations in 1990s, and best actress for Dead Man Walking (1995). Louis Malle's Atlantic City (1980), was her first Academy Award nomination.
