Abi Clarke
In the past,
i.e. early 2020, comedians might have hoped to spend years gigging up and down
the UK in stand-up comedy, before being invited to a TV panel show and then
selling out an arena tour. It's not simple at present. Comedy is one form of
art that can continue to perform in front of an audience in person. However, we
won't have arena tours any time in the near future. One comedian from Bristol
is able to reach a large global audience with the help of the social media
lockdown. Abi Clarke wasn't aiming to become a famous internet personality.
Abi, 24, lives in Henbury and began creating videos online "to establish a
community of people who like my stand-up comedy." "I had been
performing a number of shows in the middle of Devon to men of 50 and older who
weren't quite so hot on my Love Island, Sims and Twilight references so I went
to the internet in hopes of meeting other young women who could relate to
me." Abi has since been performing at Lakota Gardens after lockdown restrictions
have eased, however, she continues to upload her videos on Instagram, Twitter
and Tik Tok (where she's recently surpassed more than 500,000 followers)
Finding inspiration from sources such as her work in a cafe, a conversation
with a stranger or the girls' group chat. She also writes all of her ideas down
on her smartphone.
